December 8, 10:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.: 100 Years of Service: an all-day birthday party for the library featuring children's author Angela Dalton, a ceremony, a FixIt Clinic, Rubik’s Circle, and three live bands: The World, Work, and 15 PSI (starting at 7pm) to launch the second century of service to the North Oakland community. December 1, 2:30 p.m.: Destination Temescal, with Nayomi Munaweera, Lauren Markham, her students at International High School, members of the Italian American Federation of the East Bay et al. in a celebration of the Temescal immigrant heritage.
November 20th, 7:00 p.m.: Phonographic Memory Centennial Edition. The storytelling project Phonographic Memory brings neighbors together to listen to personal stories inspired by vinyl records. November 17th, Noon-5:00: Temescal Poetry Festival, hosted by Clive Matson. Join selected poets from the neighborhood to help celebrate the centennial of the Temescal Branch Library. Check the online events calendar or pick up a flier for a complete list of the poets involved.
November 10th, 2:30 p.m. The Edna Purviance-Mabel Normand Film Festival will recognize Oakland’s cinematic heritage & launch the "Month of Saturdays," first with screenings of newsreel footage of the response to the armistice, signed Nov. 11, 1918, followed by clips of footage shot at Idora Park, only a few blocks from the Temescal Branch Library, and in other parts of Oakland, including complete silent-era comedies with acresses Edna Purviance and Mabel Normand. Presented in partnership with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum of Fremont & is the first part of "A Month of Saturdays," recognizing the branch's 100th anniversary.
